Dr. Sunny Xun Liu is the Director of Research at Stanford Social Media Lab of Stanford University, USA.

This talk invites us to examine the evolving role of AI in our social world, from the invisible algorithms that guide what we see online, to the generative models that are now composing texts, images, and even conversations. We’ll map the features and functions of AI systems, such as performance, autonomy, affordances, cultural positioning, and consider how different types of AI, in different contexts, mediate experience and social life in distinct ways. The heart of the talk is this question: under what conditions does AI support human flourishing?  The answer to this question is essential for designing, regulating, and living with AI in ways that reflect our deepest values.
